Euripides' Ion

The triennial Cambridge Greek Play returns to the Arts Theatre Cambridge. 

Following the success of the Persians and Cyclops double bill in 2022, a new creative team led by director Rosalind Parker presents an exciting modern production of the classic Euripides play, Ion. 

We open with the backstory of mortal woman Creusa's rape by Apollo, and her abandonment of their child. Years have passed. Ion, raised an orphan at Apollo's Temple in Delphi, is now coming of age. Creusa and her husband have journeyed there in order to ask Apollo for assistance in conceiving a child. 

The tradition of performing a play in Greek every three years at Cambridge University extends back to 1882. Don't miss a unique opportunity to see this rarely staged, timely production.
