Ajax 1882
The 1882 AJAX was performed at St Andrew’s Hall (later the Theatre Royal).
The cast included James Kenneth Stephen, first cousin of Virginia Woolf, poet and (later) a tutor to the royal family.
"Any doubts that may have existed as to the suitability of the Ajax for performances before a modern audience have been set at rest by the enthusiastic reception it received."
